SMA celebrated their Christmas and New Year on the 02nd
Jan 2010 at Eastwood Community Hall from 1530pm to 2200hrs.
The Mayor of Southend Mr. Brian Smith along with our
councillor Dr VelMurugan presided over the ceremony
functions. We also had a special guest Fr.Mathai Cor
Episcopa from Indian Orthodox Church. The Mayor appraised
the work of SMA and its role in the community which was a
mile stone in SMA’s progress, and gave an insight into the
wonderful contribution of SMA’s role in integration and
contribution of intellectual and cultural contributions to
the local community. Our councillor Dr. Velmurugan added
his appreciation to the existing contributions of SMA to the
members, children’s and the local community, he also, drew a
career path wherein more could be done by way of teaching,
trainings and promotional activities. The President of SMA
Mr George Joseph added to the contributions of SMA and
highlighted the amount of hard work put into these functions
by the members of SMA and Secretary Mr. Pradeep Kuruvilla
presented a brief overview of the works being undertaken by
the association and the budgetary constraints and the ways
he believed funding could be made available through
charities and grants. These remarks and appraisals are
considered very significant as they all contribute to the
growth of the Association.
The function started with a carol singing concert performed
by SMA members in a choir and followed various traditional
dance performances by professional performers who performed
MohiniAttam, a classical traditional dance form originating
only in Kerala. The traditional art forms of kerala are
famous for their vibrant versatility and eye catching colour
costumes and the traditional way it is presented.
The importance of Baby Jesus’ Birth in Christmas was
presented in the form of a nativity show written and
directed by Abhilash Abraham and was a treat to watch with
adult actors and actresses performing to the scriptures with
apt costumes, music and lighting. A special mention needs to
be made about all the artists who acted in the nativity
play, as we understand it requires lot of practice and
professionalism to put in these efforts, A special mention
has to be made about Ms. Nancy Jimmy who assisted in the
recording of sound tracks for the Nativity with its
director. The evening was soon packed with variety
performances of cinematic dances by younger children below
10 years of age. A special mention has to be made about
Mrs. Daisy George, Mrs. Delia Biju, and Mrs Mettin Vini for
their wonderful and continuing contribution in training the
children for the dances which was a treat to the eyes and
presenting a wonderful show which was spellbound. Children
performed to the tune of Jai HO a recent Oscar winning Song
by AR Rehman and many more.
The evening progressed with more matured dance performances
by older children who danced to various Indian music, and
not to say, every bit of those performances were enjoyed to
the last drop.
The wonderful evening came to an end with an Orchestra
Performance by Melody Voice, where in members of SMA also
sang to various Indian tunes.
The evening ended with a dinner party for the guests and all
members of the SMA marking the end of Christmas and a Dawn
of a New Year for the SMA members.
Last but the not the least, there are a lot of SMA members
who have directly or indirectly contributed towards this
show. These contributions are in the form of Stage
Lighting, Stage Decoration, Makeup of Children, Sound System
Control, Videography, Hall cleaning and arrangements etc and
so many other areas of expertise. All there efforts have
been so wonderful that without their assistance and
guidance, it would be next to impossible to host such
activities. We highly appreciate there dedication and
support inmaking the whole show a success.
We wish all our members and families a Very Happy New Year.
