Dressed in their traditional attire, over 200
Malayalee members of the association pepped up the festivity with a
string of cultural shows.
The members of the association made every
effort to ensure that the festivity had a stamp of zeal to make the
non-resident Malayalees in Southend, Essex, who were unable to go to
their homeland-Kerala for celebrating the Onam on actual date, to
touch the home base.
The day began with a Arts and sports
competitions for children followed by Tug of War competition.
The noon was the feast time as SMA offered
delicious ‘ONAMSADHYA' with vegetarian dishes, on the plantain leaf,
flow seamlessly with traditional favourites such as avial (semi-dry
mixed vegetable dish), sambhar, kaalan (yam and plantains in a
buttermilk preparation), olan (pumpkin in coconut milk), pulisseri
(buttermilk curry), inchi pulli (tamarind pickle), inchi thair
(ginger curd), kaya varatathu (banana chips), ada pradaman, paal
payasam, etc.
It was mind blowing to see, Children of
Southend Malayalee Association performing their first dance
performance on the stage since the inception of our dance school and
performers from Dakshina, a dance group from Corydon, rocked the
stage with their style of dancing and lots of entertainment with
music
SMA would like to take this opportunity to
thank our members and friends for their active participation and
making Onam celebration a beautiful day to remember. |
