*** SMA Children’s day Celebration ***

On November 14th Southend Malay alee Association celebrated Children’s day organised by SMA women’s group with fun and frolic for both children and parents. Every effort was made on this occasion for every child to feel special and the day was memorable one for them. Children celebrated the afternoon for 5 hrs with stage competitions and then moving on to singing, dancing, prayer song,  group song,  national anthem (cultural programmes) and ended with everyone enjoying lovely food prepared by SMA women’s group. For our children it was a day of joy and freedom. It was a revelation to see such an abundance of talent displayed from among our children!! We had children presenters too and they did a fantastic job! Our local councillor, Dr Vel, was the chief guest of honour and he commented on how important it is to involve children in this way and encouraged them to understand both the host and the Malayalee culture. He was impressed that parents and children knitted so well together and having fun.  John Barber gave an informative talk, explaining the school system that operates in Southend and compared it with that found in Kerala. Besides making the most of the education system, he also emphasised the importance of enjoying our children and helping them to build good character.  Mention should be also given to our panel of judges Abilash Abraham and Shaila Philip who had the difficult job of judging. Every child received prizes for their effort and should be congratulated.

This event followed on from a very successful sports day held in Priory Park on 7th November where the kids did extremely well. Their effort was recognised on our Children’s day celebration. Lots of parents were worked very hard to make such a fantastic day and all should be thanked!

SMA would like to take this opportunity to thank women’s group for organising this event and our guests and each and everyone for your help and co operation in making this event great success. We must specially thank Mrs Dalia Biju and Mrs Daisy George for their effort and sleep less nights for training our children and the performance by the children were absolute brilliant.  Mention should be also given to Mrs. Rani Joseph and Mrs.Daisy George, the women's group co-ordiantors, who came forward to to bring together all malayalee women at Southend for organizing such a wonderful event .All members of Soutghend Malayalaee mahila samajam worked hard , but I should mention at least some names for their  efforts - Mettin Vini, Subi Jaison, Ancy Jacob, Simi Pradeep, & Darly, we all know you all had so much stress to train our children

The programme coincided with Children’s day in India and also (on 20th November) Universal Children’s day which emphasises the rights that every child in the world ought to be enjoying. This day serves as a reminder to each and every one of us, to renew our commitment to the welfare of children and teach them to live by their Chacha Nehru’s standard and example. While we are very lucky with our own children, we should also reflect there are many children who are not so well off and that we ought to do what we can to help them!
